Why is it?

That when someone passes away, they lose all personification, that we no longer refer to them as a person or a being, but more of an object?
It's quite odd, yet we all do it.
But why do we do it?
Is it so we lose connection, and in time, let ourselves movie on?
Or is just because we're lazy and feel no need to connect them in such a way.
I'd really like to know.
